A junior engineer of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) was allegedly attacked by an east Delhi councillor on Friday, police said.
Police said the engineer was a part of an EDMC team from Kotla, out to remove encroachments. After he reached councillor Sandhya Verma's ward Patparganj, the latter allegedly abused him and held him by his neck. The matter was resolved after the police intervened.
A case has been registered against Verma under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC at Pandav Nagar police station.
On Thursday, the victim, identified as CB Singh, of ward number 209 had reached Patparganj along with his team and some police personnel. They began removing the building material was lying on the road.
Just then Sharma, the councillor from ward 220, came and allegedly began abusing Singh. Singh also alleged that later in the evening, Varma along with her staff came looking for Singh at his office. "There, she reportedly threatened him with dire consequences," said a senior police officer.
"Construction was on at a widow's house. This junior engineer, who is from another ward, tried to remove the construction material," alleged Verma. "Since I represent the ward, I opposed his act but he started pushing and manhandling me. I went to the EDMC commissioner, after which I thought that the matter had been resolved. But on Friday, I was informed that Singh has filed a complaint against me," she added.
