The Enforcement Directorate on Monday recorded the statement of the wife of SM Kazmi, accused of providing support for attack on the Israeli embassy vehicle. She was called to explain the source of around Rs 19 lakh in her bank account.
According to ED sources, Kazmi's wife Jahan Ara told investigators that the money in her account in the BK Dutt colony branch of Punjab National Bank is basically remittances from her son in Dubai and a relative in UK.
According to Kazmi's family members, they have sought four more days to submit all documents to explain the amount.
She had been summoned under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Delhi Police have found 'unaccounted' money amounting to around R4 lakh in the account of Kazmi also at the Shastri Bhawan branch of the State Bank of India.
Before calling Kazmi's wife, the ED had received details of accounts from the banks. Kazmi, 50, has been accused of facilitating the bombing of an Israeli diplomat's car on February 13. Four people, including the wife of an Israeli diplomat, were injured in the incident.
The ED will soon question Kazmi in the matter. Kazmi, after being interrogated by the police, is in judicial custody now.
The ED will have to move special PMLA court for permission to record his statement in judicial custody.
Kazmi’s family and friends have denied all allegations against him and claimed he was being implicated.
