The upcoming Commonwealth Games today got a mention in President Pratibha Patil's address to Parliament in which she said efforts were in full swing to make the sporting event a grand success.
In her customary address to Parliament on the first day of the Budget session, Patil noted that preparations for
the event were at an advanced stage.
"Every effort will be made to ensure a befitting and successful conduct of the Games," she said.
In a first for Doordarshan, Patil said, the event will will be covered by the national broadcaster in High Definition
High Definition TV or HDTV refers to video having resolution substantially higher than traditional TV systems.
HDTV has one or two million pixels per frame, roughly five times that of traditional systems.
She also said the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the capital will be fully operational by July, well in
time for the Commonwealth Games.
