Unidentified attackers strangled an elderly lady in central Delhi on Friday evening.
The incident took place at 40/7 East Patel Nagar residence of victim Rajender Kaur Kharbanda (65), police said.
A family member reported the incident, the police said, adding the victim’s husband Amarjeet Singh was reportedly not at home during the incident.
The police said prima facie it looked like the victim knew her attackers, as they did not enter the house by force.
“The victim was alone at home when the incident took place. The crime team has taken fingerprints from the spot and we have questioned neighbours and other people who are regulars to the house,” said Jaspal Singh, deputy commissioner of police (Central).
The police said that the victim was found in the living room of the house. Singh added that two glasses were found on the centre-table.
The police said Singh, the victim’s husband, is a share-broker who did most of his work from home. The couple lived with a relative as their children — two sons and a daughter— are settled abroad, they added.
A case of murder has been registered and a probe is on.
