A 25-year-old engineer has been arrested for killing the husband of a woman with whom he had developed illicit relations. Police said the accused, Dharmendra Kumar alias Veeru, was living in the victim's house for the past seven years.

"He developed illicit relations with the victim's wife. When her husband Vidya Nath (35) came to know about the affair, Kumar killed him with a screwdriver," AK Ojha, additional CP (southwest) said.

Nath's body was found in the pool of blood at his house in Bharat Nagar, southwest Delhi, on Monday. His wife informed the police about the incident but denied Kumar's role in the murder. Police investigation revealed Kumar, a distant relative of the women, was living in the same house.

"Whenever we contacted him on the phone to join the investigation, he claimed he was not in Delhi. But when we checked his location through call records, he was found to be present in west Delhi. This raised our suspicion and teams were sent to nab him," Ojha added.

Kumar was apprehended from Sangam Vihar, where he had gone to meet a relative. He told the police that two years ago he had developed illicit relations with Nath's wife.

"Kumar claimed Nath was continuously demanding money from him for the construction of his house. On the fateful day, he was drunk and asked money again and he killed him in a fit of rage," Ojha said.

Police said Kumar used to regularly visit a laboratory in Katwaria Sarai and they got crucial details about him from there. Further investigations in the are on.
