A day after the arrest of two engineers who allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint, police have recovered Rs 2 lakh from them. During investigations, it was found that the weapon used in the crime was a toy gun. Both the engineers have been remanded to three days’ police custody on Thursday.

On March 25, the duo robbed one Neelam Aggarwal while she was driving a car in Sector 15 A area. The incident occurred when Aggarwal, a resident of Sector 16, was returning from the Punjab National Bank branch at Sector 15 after withdrawing Rs 6 lakh. Her driver was sitting on the backseat when two motorcycle-borne youth appeared on the scene and robbed her at gunpoint.

“We have recovered Rs 2 lakh from a house in Sector 5 Gurgaon on Thursday,” said Anil Kumar, in-charge of Criminal Investigating Agency (CIA), Bhupani. He said efforts are on to recover the rest of the money.

The police on Wednesday arrested two young engineers, claiming that they were involved in the March 25 robbery.

The duo has been identified as Vikas from Rohtak and Puneet from Karnal. Police said both have completed their engineering degree from YMCA Engineering College in Faridabad a year ago.

The two were used to a lavish lifestyle, which forced them to resort to thefts and loots, police added. “The possibility of their involvement in other incidents of robbery can’t be ruled out. But that will be clear only after their interrogation,” he said, adding that the two confessed to have threatened the woman with a toy gun.
