As mercury soars high and power cuts return to haunt the city, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has issued a strict warning to private discoms to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

After a meeting to review electricity supply and demand in the Capital on Wednesday, Dikshit told power discoms that loadshedding due to faulty transmission network would not be tolerated.

Dikshit also asked the discoms to ensure that their grievance redressal mechanisms worked efficiently and effectively round the clock.

The review meeting was called by the chief minister after getting reports of long power outages in the Capital during the last three to four days.

“The chief minister stressed on the need of urgent repair of faulty transformers and asked BSES to procure mobile transformers which are being deployed by the Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited in areas under its jurisdiction,” a statement issued by the chief minister's office said.

Senior power department officials said the discoms had been asked to prominently publicise their helpline numbers so that consumers were not put to any inconvenience in lodging complaints.

Officials confirmed that several areas in the city were facing outages for up to three hours due to collapse of transmission network following increase in power demand.

“We have also asked discoms to submit reports on the power situation to the government on a daily basis,” an official from the chief minister’s office said.

The chief minister also reviewed the water supply network in the city. While the Delhi Jal Board pointed out that frequent power cuts had been severely affecting functioning of water treatment plants, officials said the agency had been told to monitor deployment of water tankers in such areas.
