The AAP government’s maiden budget has given Delhiites a reason to cheer as it has earmarked `1,468 crore for water supply and sanitation for 2015-16.
Deputy chief minister and finance minister Manish Sisodia, in his budget speech said, “Our government is committed to providing piped drinking water supply to every household. Still, more than 800 unauthorised colonies depend on water tankers to meet daily requirements. Piped water supply will be extended to all these unauthorised colonies in a time-bound manner in the next three years.”
Piped water to households and cleaning up Yamuna were key promises made by the party during polls. “We will clean Yamuna river area and make it a picnic spot and people can come there and enjoy in the next five years. In three years, will ensure the whole of Delhi gets clean drinking water,” Sisodia said.
The AAP government plans to set up a new water treatment plant in Iradat Nagar and improve the existing ones at Chandrawal and Wazirabad to increase water production.
Sisodia said Jan Jal Prabandhan Yojana — a scheme to involve the community in management of water and sewerage services in a decentralised manner, and a mobile application for self meter reading and bill generation would be launched.
