A retired army lieutenant colonel was murdered and his sister critically injured in an early morning attack at their Old Faridabad house on Saturday.

Police said some armed men entered retired lieutenant colonel Romesh Chander Sachdeva's (67) house in Sayedwada area under Old Faridabad police station early on Saturday. His younger sister Neelam (43) was also in the house.

The men gained entry in the house around 4 a.m. and attacked Sachdeva with knives, leaving him in pool of blood. His sister reportedly woke up and tried to protect her brother but she was also attacked with some sharp edged weapons.

But she managed to cry for help after which the attackers fled from the house.

Some neighbours came out of the house after hearing Neelam's cry and immediately informed the police. SHO Old Faridabad Ram Chander rushed to the spot.

Both Romesh Chander and his sister were rushed to a hospital where the former was declared brought dead. His sister's condition is critical. She is in the ICU of a private hospital in Faridabad.

"We have registered a case under section 302 of the IPC against unknown persons," SHO Old Faridabad Ram Chander said.

The body of the deceased was handed over to some of his relatives after post-mortem examination.

DCP Central Shashank Anand, who had also visited the spot, told HT, "It seems to be a blind case as of now. We will wait for Neelam's condition to stabilize to record her statement."
