Ex-armyman, wrestler held for carjacking, stealing cars

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested five members of a gang, including a former army man and a champion wrestler, who were allegedly involved in a number of carjacking and vehicle theft cases.

Kuldeep Bhardwaj (26), who worked in the army for five years, and Krishan Kumar (22), who won a gold medal at a state-level wrestling championship, were arrested first. Three other members of the gang were arrested subsequently.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Satyendra Garg said Bhardwaj and Kumar were allegedly travelling in a stolen car with a fake number plate. During questioning the police came to know that they were carjackers.

The police interrogated them at length. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in several cases of car jacking and vehicle theft.

On their instance, the police apprehended the other members of the gang identified as Sandeep Parashar (24), Vijay Bharadwaj (21) and Arshad Ali (32).
