She wasn’t really that into him, so he whisked her away — literally — from her wealthy friend and that, too, in the latter’s own luxury car. A 20-year-old final-year engineering student, Priya (name changed) was allegedly abducted and later molested by her former boyfriend in outer Delhi’s Prashant Vihar on Tuesday, police said.
Priya was waiting the car for her friend Tushar (name changed), 24, to return with film tickets outside PVR Prashant Vihar, when the accused, 22-year-old Akash, forcibly entered the vehicle and drove her away.
“We were informed about the incident by Tushar at 11.45am. Akash was traced and arrested from Bawana less than an hour later. It seems to be a case of one-sided love,” said Karnail Singh, joint commissioner of police (northern range).
According to police, the victim, a resident of Rohini, had reached the multiplex with Tushar at 11.30am.
“They had decided to watch a movie later in the day for which Tushar, an auto-parts dealer at Rohini, parked his silver Hyundai Accent car near the PVR entry gate while Priya waited for him to get movie tickets from the booking counter,” said a senior police officer investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, Akash — police suspect he was tailing Tushar’s car — came up to Priya and started talking to her.
“She told him she was there with her friend and that it would be improper if Tushar saw Akash sitting in the car without his permission. Akash had already spotted that the car’s keys were in the ignition, so he started the car and drove away with her,” the officer said.
Police said Akash had known the victim for several years as both used to live in Kanjhawala before Priya’s family relocated to Rohini two years ago.
“They were also pursuing a course in IT from the same college till some months ago. In her complaint, Priya stated that Akash reminded her of their history, intimidated her with dire consequences if she refused to enter into a relationship with him and slapped her when she refused,” said the officer. When she rejected his proposal, a disheartened Akash rammed the vehicle into a police barricade near Bawana and turned himself in.
“He had no particular destination in mind and just wanted to talk to her. But when she refused to give in to his proposal, he simply gave up. We have booked him under various sections for voluntarily causing hurt, molestation, abduction and criminal intimidation,” Joint CP Singh added.
