‘Expanding probe Cong ploy to divert attention from PC’

As the CBI sought to expand its 2G probe to cover the NDA regime, the Congress finds it as a justified move while the BJP sees it as a government’s ploy to prevent a probe against then finance minister P Chidambaram.
Congress leaders point out that former telecom secretary Shyamal Ghosh was already extensively grilled in a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting over his involvement in allotting additional spectrum in 2002. Documents produced by parliamentarians showed that in 2002, additional spectrum, from 6.2 to 8 mhz was allocated to certain companies and the file only had signatures of Mahajan and Ghosh and other senior officers were ignored.
“In the meeting, a parliamentarian even told Ghosh that we don’t wish to embarrass him further,” said a Congress MP. Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari added: "The BJP has to decide if it believes in the efficiency of the CBI or not."
Javadekar said, instead of probing Chidambaram’s role when he was finance minister, the CBI was going after late Mahajan’s aides when there was no scam.
He defended the decisions taken by the NDA government and alleged that the fresh case was an effort to mislead the 2G spectrum investigations.
He alleged that Congress was back to its “old tricks” and said, “It is not a franchise corruption but a coalition corruption in which Congress is equally responsible.”
