Two men, allegedly associated with absconding extortionist Vikas Lagarpuria who is wanted in several cases of extortion, robbery and murder across the national capital region, were arrested by the crime branch.
Identified as Sanjeev alias Sethi, 28, and Sumit, 21, both of them hail from Jhajjar in Haryana. They were nabbed from Dwarka's Sector one while receiving a consignment of arms and ammunition on Monday, said Sanjay Kumar Jain, DCP (crime).
"Our anti extortion cell received information that some associates of Vikas Lagarpuria had set up a base in Dwarka and were procuring arms and ammunition to extort money from local property dealers. However, nobody was coming forward to lodge a formal police complaint against them out of fear," DCP Jain said.
Based on the tip-off, police said a raiding party took-up position on the Dwarka-Najafgarh Road which the duo had designated as a rendezvous point. "Two pistols and four live cartridges were recovered from Sethi and a pistol and three live cartridges were recovered from Sumit," said DCP Jain.
According to police, apart from being previously involved in several cases of murder, attempt to murder and the Arms Act in Delhi and Haryana, the duo also used to provide shelter to other gang members.
