Within two months of its launch, the ‘Eyes and Ears’ scheme of the Gurgaon police has helped crack nearly 100 crime cases. These include 61 cases under the excise act, 11 of the Foreigners Act, 10 cases under arms act, 10 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and eight gambling cases.
“The scheme was inspired by the Delhi Police initiative. The programme has been running in collaboration with citizens, said Vikas Arora, DCP (east), Gurgaon police. “We have around 50 people under each police station who provide us information. We have been conducting regular meetings where people are told to approach the nearest police station if they notice any suspicious activity.”
