Kunda DSP murder

An initial probe into the murder of UP deputy superintendent of police Zia-ul-Haq suggests that he may have been a victim of mob that went on rampage after the killing of Balipur village head Nanhe Yadav, said CBI sources.

“Initial eyewitness accounts suggested that Zia- ul-Haq may have been killed by a mob angry over murder of Balipur village head Nanhe Yadav. Someone from the mob may have shot him but again these are preliminary findings. The agency is yet to reach any final conclusion,” said a CBI official.

It is also yet to form any final opinion on the involvement of former UP minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya in Haq’s murder.

Haq’s wife Praveen Azad had alleged that Raja Bhaiya was part of the conspiracy.

Besides the killing of Haq, the agency is also investigating murders of Nanhe and his brother Suresh.

Kunda circle officer and DSP Zia - ul-Haq had reached Balipur village on March 2 after Nanhe Yadav’s murder. But after reaching there, he was also killed along with Nanhe’s brother Suresh.

In another development, the UP government on Wednesday shunted out police officers reportedly close to Raja Bhayya.

UP’s secretary (home) SN Upadhayay said the CBI’s joint director RS Bhatti had written to the government on March 28 about questionable functioning of additional SP Asha Ram and four other officers posted in Kunda.

The agency had alleged that these police officers were close to influential people and it was affecting progress in the investigation.
