The Delhi Police on Monday busted an inter-state fake maid placement racket and arrested three members of the gang, including its kingpin, for allegedly duping more than 20 people in Delhi and NCR of their money by promising them maids.
The arrested people have been identified as Arvind Kamat alias Ganesh, the mastermind of the racket, Sukhi Mukhiya aka Pankaj and Shyam Kumar. The police recovered more than 6,000 pamphlets, over 100 visiting cards of different domestic help bureaus and 4 stamps from them.
Chhaya Sharma, DCP(south), said the accused were arrested by a team led by Anil Sharma, SHO of Vasant Vihar police station, following a complaint lodged by one Anuj Gandhi.
Gandhi in his complaint told police that he read a pamphlet of Anupam Maid Bureau in several newspapers. On October 12, he contacted them and one Ganesh introduced himself as owner of the placement agency.
"Ganesh promised him that they will provide him a trained caretaker for his twins if he pays an annual commission of Rs 18,000 and a monthly salary of R2,500 per month to the maid," said Sharma adding that Gandhi paid them R8,000 in advance on October 14 and received a woman caretaker from them.
"The next morning, the family found the maid missing and immediately contacted Ganesh who assured them that he will send another maid. However, Ganesh switched off his mobile phone," said the officer.
