“We had told the police that Mandeep had borrowed Rahul’s car after Kuldeep and Monica were found dead on Sunday. The police, however, didn’t act on our tip-off,” said Sonu Singh (28), Kuldeep’s elder brother.
Kuldeep (26) and his wife Monica were allegedly shot dead by Ankit Khari (22) and his friends Mandeep Nagar (23) and Nikku, on Sunday night. Ankit is Monica’s younger brother.
On Tuesday, around 8 am, a foul smell coming from a black Hyundai Santro led the police to the rotting corpse of a 20-year-old woman. “The woman has been identified as Shobha Nagar, Mandeep’s younger sister. The car belongs to Rahul Singh (22), Kuldeep’s relative,” said N.S. Bundela DCP (northwest).
Interestingly, while Kuldeep and Monica were found dead less than half a kilometre from the district DCP’s office, Shobha was found dead 350 metres behind the same office.
Kuldeep’s kin said Khari had borrowed the car from Rahul, the son of Kuldeep’s paternal uncle, Narender Singh. “He had come around 4 pm on Sunday and asked Rahul if he could borrow his car to go for a drive with his sister and friends,” Sonu said. Kuldeep’s family alleged that the assailants could have been caught the same day had the police acted immediately.
“How could the police procrastinate looking for the missing car despite our telling them that the last word that Ankit had with anyone in the village was with Rahul? The trio could have been caught sooner,” said Rajesh Singh Walia (48), Kuldeep’s younger paternal uncle.
The police denied the Singh family’s claims. “We got no such inputs from Kuldeep’s family. We are investigating the matter,” DCP Bundela said.
