A 22-year-old man was shot dead on Wednesday night at a party at his friend's house in Tri Nagar area in Keshav Puram.

Police said Happy Singh, the victim, had gone to his childhood friend Amalok Singh’s house for a party. Amolak's friend Indrapreet Singh was also present there. The three men were enjoying the party but it somehow abruptly ended with Indrapreet shooting Happy. Indrapreet has been arrested but the police are probing as to what provoked him.

Police said Indrapreet, son of a businessman, had come to the party with personal security officer (PSO) in his Ford fiesta. "We still have to verify the motive behind the murder. But initial investigation points to an argument that broke out at the party and following that Indrapreet took his PSO's licensed gun and shot Happy," a senior police officer added.

Indrapreet's medical examination confirmed he was drunk that night. The PSO, a retired UP police personnel, may also be booked for negligence.

Happy's sister Jaspreet Kaur said, "He left home at 8:30pm to meet Amolak, who was his childhood friend. My brother visited him often. We were informed of the incident at 2:30am."

"We received a call from Kalra Hospital at 12:45am about two persons who brought a man with bullet injuries. Happy succumbed to injuries at the hospital," a senior police officer said.

Happy was the youngest and the only earning member of his family. Till last December, he was working with Dell as a promoter but had left the job.

Happy’s family has alleged that the two accused also washed the house after the murder to erase evidence. They also delayed taking him to the hospital, the family claimed.

Police said they will probe the allegations.
