Rejecting the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat announced by the Centre, several farmer organisations of Punjab including Bharti Kisan Union (BKU) will gherao the Parliament on February 18.
Our demand is Rs 1768 per quintal as MSP on wheat as against Rs 1080 per quintal announced by the Centre, Punjab BKU (Rajewal) General Secretary Balbir Singh told reporters here today.
Noting the "hardships" of potato farmers in the state, he said they would stage a protest in Khanna on February three.
"We will throw potatoes on roads in Khanna - one of the biggest grain markets...The Punjab Government must give a subsidy of Rs 200 per quintal to potato growers as their produce is purchased by none in the state," Singh said.
He also demanded that the diesel prices must be cut down by at least Rs ten as against Rs two by the Centre.
