Police have arrested the father and two brothers of the 17-year-old girl who was found shot dead on November 24 in Masuri area of Ghaziabad. Police suspect it to be a case of honour killing and say the incident was allegedly planned and executed by the trio. They killed her after they came to know the girl was allegedly having an affair with a man and was planning to run away with him.
The victim's father, Mohammed Parvez, and two brothers - Javed and Imran (who go by single names), were arrested after the trio revealed they had murdered the girl and falsely implicated a neighbourhood family for dacoity and murder.
The father had shot two gunshots at her within a span of 25 minutes. The trio told the police that they had locked the girl in a room on the night of November 23 and woke her up around 2.30am.
"I fired a shot at her but it missed and the fire-arm got jammed. Then my father shot her twice, one over her jaw and the other one at her right temple area. But she survived, bled profusely, but remained quite?" Javed said.
The first two shots awakened seven other women in the family who could do little to save her, an investigating officer told HT. "Still alive after having bled for over 25 minutes, her father pumped two bullets from point-blank range and she died on the spot," said senior superintendent of police Raghubir Lal.
Earlier, the girl had fled on the night of November 14 to meet her friend, Mohammed Naim, but returned home. Thereafter, her family sent her to their relatives at Parikshitgarh area and allowed her to come back a day before she was killed. "By then the trio had planned her killing and procured country-made pistol from a local criminal," Lal added.
After the murder, the trio fired shots in the air outside their house and faked that their neighbours had committed a dacoity inside their house and murdered their daughter.
