A 41-year-old man has been arrested for kidnapping his business partner’s 15-month-old baby boy.
The accused, Choplal Pandey (41), wanted to teach his partner a “lesson” for allegedly not paying him his share of the business.
The baby was rescued from Holambi Kalan in Outer Delhi on Thursday.
A native of Nepal, Pandey was supplying manpower to various countries.
His distant relative Kishan Pandey, the baby’s father, was his business partner.
Choplal brought men and women from his village in Nepal promising them good money in foreign countries. Kishan then sent them to these countries.
The duo got a commission of Rs 20,000 per person.
“Choplal started spending money on liquor and Kishan slowly started taking hold of the business. He reduced Choplal’s share which the latter didn’t like,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Aggarwal.
Police said the accused kidnapped the baby from Kishan’s Punjabi Colony house on September 22. The father was away in Mumbai then.
Kishan’s wife Maya told the police that Choplal had come to their house two days ago and went missing with the baby.
“Choplal called them late in the night saying the baby is with him. In the next call he demanded Rs 1 lakh for the child’s release. On Wednesday again, he called and demanded money but this time he landed in our net,” the DCP said.
