A 25-year-old Delhi police constable has filed a complaint against her senior colleague, a sub-inspector (SI), accusing him of raping her on the pretext of marriage.

On Tuesday morning, the woman constable consumed some poisonous substance and fell unconscious at a bus stop in northeast Delhi’s Khajoori Khas.

Though a case of rape has been registered against sub-inspector Vishesh Khokhar, 28, who is currently posted at east Delhi’s Shakarpur police station, senior police officers said the two were in a live-in relationship for the past three years.

Khokhar is reportedly absconding since the complaint was lodged against him.

A police officer said some passersby saw the woman constable lying unconscious at the bus stop and called the police control room. A PCR van rushed her to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where she is recuperating currently.

“Her statement was recorded at the hospital after the doctors declared her fit enough to do so. She said she attempted suicide after Khokhar refused to marry her. She had learnt that he was planning to marry someone else. She accused him of cheating her and establishing physical relationship by promising to marry her,” the officer said.

Police said the woman constable was staying with Khokhar at his house in Khajoori Khas as his live-in partner for the past three years.

“They became friends and got close when the woman constable was posted at the Shakarpur police station in 2010 during the Commonwealth Games. Khokhar promised to marry her and established physical relationship. But for the past few months, she said in her complaint, he was ignoring her and had told her that he won’t be able to marry her,” the officer added.
