Booking a railway ticket was a tedious process for PK Roy, a resident of Chittaranjan Park. Roy (72) had to travel to a railway reservation office in Okhla to book train tickets as there was no railway counter in his area.

But now getting a railway reservation will be easier for Roy and other residents of nearby colonies as the railways has finally opened a reservation office in Chittaranjan Park, which will also cater to nearby localities like Greater Kailash I and II, Alaknanda Apartments and Kalkaji.

“We don’t stay with our kids and travelling to Okhla for booking train tickets consumes a lot of time. Opening of a reservation counter in Chittaranjan Park will certainly make the process less troublesome,” said RK Bagga, a resident of Kalkaji.

The proposal of setting up a railway reservation office (PRS facility) was initiated by EPDP (East Pakistan Displaced People) Association about five years ago who vigorously followed it up with the Railway Board and the Postal Department.

“There was a long felt need for a railway counter in the area and we are happy that finally we have got one,” said Snigdha Roy, a resident of Chittaranjan Park.

The reservation counter, presently working out of Chittaranjan Park Post Office, will be open from 10am to 5pm except on Sundays.

“Most of the people living in this area are senior citizens. They don’t know how to use internet. This railway counter will make things easier for them,” said a railways spokesperson.
