Five arrested for beating couple in court premises
Five members of a family were arrested in New Delhi on Friday for allegedly assaulting a newly married couple in the premises of the Delhi HC, says the police.
Five members of a family were arrested in New Delhi on Friday for allegedly assaulting a newly married couple in the premises of the Delhi High Court, police said.
Imrana and Sajid, married last month against the wishes of their families, were brutally attacked by the girl's (Imrana) family near entrance to the high court.
The couple had come for a hearing in the court after Imrana's parents filed a false abduction case against her husband in Sarita Vihar police station in south Delhi.
The couple moved the high court seeking its intervention and the hearing was fixed for Friday, police said.
"But before the couple could enter the court room, Imrana's family manhandled them near the gate. They apparently tried to take the girl away in a car but police foiled their attempt and all the accused were brought before the judge," a senior police official said.
"The five people were arrested on the girl's statement. The honourable court has issued the direction of registering a fresh case into the matter," police said.
