The Delhi police have apprehended five juveniles who had killed an 83-year-old woman during a robbery attempt at her Vikaspuri house in west Delhi. Police said the mastermind of the gang is a 22-year-old man who used juveniles to commit robberies.
Police said the gang members lived in Bawana in outer Delhi and used to come to west Delhi to commit robberies at night. "They target houses where either a senior citizen resides alone or where they could find less family members," V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west) said.
On a tip-off, five juveniles were apprehended from Vikaspuri in the wee hours on Friday. House breaking equipments , screw driver, plier and two sim cards were recovered from them.
During interrogation, they admitted their involvement in the murder of Joginder Kaur who was found dead at her Vikaspuri house last week.
"The juveniles have migrated with their families to Delhi from remote areas of West Bengal. They were fascinated with the luxurious life style of Delhi and joined one Rashid who was a known robber and burglar," Renganathan added.
He used to cultivate them to commit crime and kept large amount of booty with himself as a token of security.
"In the day time, Rashid used to work as a labourer in the tent houses in west Delhi. Rashid used to survey the place where they would strike at night," he added. They target houses where female senior citizens were living alone as it is easy to overpower them.
"Before striking, they used to assemble at JJ Colony, Bawana around 10 pm where they used to eat and drink and then depart for their works around midnight in a three-wheeler generally hired by Rashid," Renganathan said.
