Flier chips tooth, takes airline to task

When Deepak Nandra, 30, flew with a private airline from Kathmandu to Delhi, little did he realise that he would end up with an unsavoury taste in the mouth and a chipped tooth.

On the Jet Airways flight that Nandra took on June 29, he was served non-vegetarian food, despite having made his preference for vegetarian food clear.

“The cabin crew served me a non-vegetarian dish but I realised the truth only when I was half-way through it. I had a long-drawn argument with the cabin crew about it, who apologised for the oversight,” said Nandra, a Delhi-based businessman.

However, Nandra said, “When I was served a vegetarian dish later, it was of poor quality and had small 'stones' in it. As a result, I chipped a tooth,” said Nandra, who has now sent a legal notice to Jet Airways, the private airline.

“In the name of compensation, the airline offered me 3,000 points. I have decided to send a legal notice to them,” Nandra further said.

Hindustan Times has a copy of the legal notice and e-mails exchanged between Jet Airways and Nandra.

A Jet Airways spokesperson said, “As a customer-centric airline, Jet Airways endeavours to take all steps to ensure service excellence. The airline is internally investigating the matter and will communicate the findings directly to the guest.”
