Dense fog on Monday morning led to three massive pile-ups on the Yamuna Expressway. More than 10 persons were injured in the accidents. In one incident, there was a pile-up involving 20 cars.
The first accident took place around 8am when a car hit a divider due to low-visibility. Soon, it became a pile-up of 20 vehicles. Around six persons were injured in the accident that took place at Dankaur area, around 13 km from Point Zero of the expressway.
In the second major accident, an Innova car hit a divider after it lost control after the tyre burst, said an eyewitness.
“Even before the car could be cleared from the road, a speeding Tata car hit it from behind, followed by 11 other vehicles,” said the eyewitness. The accident took place at Rabupura area, 30 km from point zero.
In the third accident, seven cars collided near the Jewar toll plaza. It took the officials several hours to clear the vehicles, which resulted in slow movement of traffic on the expressway.
Officials of the Yamuna Expressway and Noida police issued advisories to commuters to take precaution while driving under low-visibility conditions.
“We have asked officials of the Yamuna expressway to do more patrolling,” said Ashok Kumar, superintendent of police (rural)
