The owner of a television channel and construction company, who was arrested in south Delhi, has been charged of cheating a number of investors by defaulting payment, police said.

The accused, identified as Vijay Dixit (55), who owns a TV channel as well as a construction company had allegedly lured people to invest their money in his projects which never took off, police said.

Eight cases are pending against him while arrest warrants have been issued against him in three cases.

"His company, Senior Builders Ltd, projected itself as a leader and dynamic group engaged in high quality construction and real estate development and boasted of exploring vast open lands in Delhi's vicinity," said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south).

"His company lured innocent people to invest their hard earned money in the projects. The so-called 'constructors and builders' played hide and seek with the investors, who having lost their savings filed cases and complaints for relief while Dixit enjoyed a luxurious life in the hiding," Dhaliwal said.

His arrest came following investigations into a complaint filed by one Sheena Swaroop. "Acting on the offer made by Dixit, the complainant paid around R50 lakh for purchase of a shop in Senior Mall in Gurgaon and two in Faridabad. As per the arrangement, the complainant and her daughter were to receive R90,886 per month as assured return on the investments till the time the shops were
rented out by the builder," Dhaliwal said.

Dixit allegedly transferred the shops to one Suman Malhotra as the complainant along with her daughter were residing at Jaipur and was unable to look after her property on day to day basis.

"When she approached Dixit and demanded explanation from him regarding this, she did not get any satisfactory reply," Dhaliwal said. Following this Swaroop lodged a complaint in May this year.
