When his “buy, buy” clamour failed to move his father, a 15-year-old resident of New Ashok Nagar decided to say “bye, bye” in a manner that his businessman father will not forget in a hurry.
On Monday, the Class X student of a public school in Khajoori Khas staged his own kidnapping with help from his best friend and two others.
The boy’s wishlist had included a premium mobile phone worth more than Rs 20,000 and a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle. So, his ‘kidnappers’ demanded a Rs 1 lakh ransom from the boy’s father.
“The boy also promised a part of the ransom to his friends,” said a senior police officer.
Police said the ‘kidnappers’ told the father to leave the ransom money at an isolated spot in Jagatpuri. The man did as he was told, and his son was then ‘released’.
After his son returned home, the businessman complained to the police about the kidnapping.
Upon investigating the case, the police were able to trace the phone number of the accused to New Ashok Nagar, and it was soon established that the kidnapping was stage-managed.
All four boys were arrested and have been sent to a juvenile home.
