A 36-year-old Uzbek woman was allegedly beaten up and gang-raped by her former boyfriend and his four friends at her rented flat in south Delhi’s Masoodpur near Vasant Kunj on Friday morning.
The woman has alleged that she was so badly beaten that she started losing consciousness.
The woman filed her complaint at the Vasant Kunj North police station on Tuesday. She said she was scared and traumatised and that is why couldn’t report the crime the same day.
On the basis of her complaint, a case under sections 376D(gangrape) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of Indian Penal Code was registered against the five accused. The woman’s statement was also recorded. However, none of the accused was arrested till Wednesday night.
The woman identified two of them as her former boyfriend, Anubhav Yadav, and his friend Gaurav Bhatia. She told the police that she did not know the other three. Senior police officers said that they were conducting raids to nab the suspects.
The woman claimed that she was living in the rented apartment in Masoodpuri for the past six months. She said she knew Yadav for four years. They met on a social networking website and started dating when she came to Delhi from Surat in Gujarat.
In her complaint, she alleges that she broke up with Yadav two weeks ago. However, Yadav was against her decision and continued calling and harassing her over phone. The woman began avoiding him and stopped taking his calls, she alleged.
Last week, at 2 am, Yadav along with Bhatia and three others reached the victim’s flat entered forcibly. “I thought they had come to talk to me. But as I opened the door, Yadav and Bhatia started assaulting me for not taking their calls. I fell semi-unconscious as they thrashed me brutally,” the woman told the police.
When she regained consciousness, she was semi-nude and had pain in her abdomen, she has said in her complaint.
