Former Lt Governor of Delhi and senior IPS officer Markande Singh died In New Delhi on Friday after a brief illness, the family said.
Singh, 81, is survived by his son Harshvardhan Singh, Deputy Director General of World Trade Organisation and a daughter. He was admitted to AIIMS where he breathed his last this afternoon.
Singh, a 1956 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh, had retired as Director General of Arunachal Pradesh and later served as Lt Governor of the Delhi for a brief period of 1991-92.
He had the distinction of being the first IPS officer who was appointed as the Lt Governor of Delhi.
