"It would be logistically easy to shift the patient to the Mohali hospital as its location is relatively closer to other major hospitals in the country," Chahal said.

Dr Amit Mandal, head of the critical care unit, said the hospital is fully equipped to comprehensively treat critical cases like the one in Sarabjit's.

49-year-old Sarabjit is in a comma and undergoing treatment at the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore after he sustained several injuries, including a skull fracture, when prisoners attacked him in the Kot Lakhpat Jail on Friday.

Meanwhile, Pakistan on Monday said the "best possible care" is being given to Sarabjit and that there are no plans to move him.
