Delhi police have arrested four men for the rape of a 20-year-old computer teacher.

The accused include two brothers and all are residents of HGI Labour Colony in Sultanpuri. They are Rama Lal (20), his brother Harish Lal (22), Nirnanjan (20) and Dilip Singh (23). One is still absconding.

On October 5, the young woman was returning home with a male colleague when she was abducted by five men and raped near the railway tracks in Sultanpuri in west Delhi.

The men dumped her near the tracks after the assault.

“As it is a lonely stretch, we realised the crime might have been committed by people from the nearby slum clusters. With the help of local people and informants in these areas we were finally able to zero in on the accused,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Aggarwal.

According to the police, the accused revealed during interrogation that the girl was raped by two of them.

The police said that Niranjan and Dilip were arrested first and their questioning led to the arrest of Rama and Harish.

Harish, who is married and has a six-month-old child, went to a liquor shop along with Dilip on Monday evening where they met the others and had alcohol.

“While returning, they saw the girl and Parkash walking together. Taking advantage of darkness and the deserted stretch, one of them started assaulting Parkash and forced him to flee,” said Aggarwal.

The police said the men then dragged the victim across the Railway Line to an isolated place near Bhalla Factory.

According to the police, Nirnanjan has studied up to tenth standard and is a welder in Kamruddin Nagar.

Dilip, whose father is an employee with PWD, works in a factory at Swran Park Mundka while Rama recently completed a diploma course in welding from ITI in Nand Nagri.

Harish has done a diploma course from ITI Madanpur Dabas and is an electrician in a private company.
