Four members of a Mumbai- based gang, who used to dupe women of their jewellery in the capital by posing as policemen, were arrested by the outer district police on Monday.
According to police, the gang of imposters had in the recent past cheated several women of their jewellery.
This is for the second time in the past three months that the police have arrested members of a Mumbai-based gang who used to commit crimes in Delhi, said a police officer.
The four imposters, arrested on Sunday from Rohini, have been identified as Mohammad Ibharim, 40, Sikander Ali, 27, Nizam Ali, 33 and Sarfuddin, 33, all hailing from Thane in Maharashtra but of Iranian origin.
BS Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (outer), said the arrested persons had duped a woman in south Delhi's Satya Niketan area of her gold bangles and chain when she along with her husband was returning home after a morning walk.
"The arrest came, following the information that the gang members would come in Rohini to commit a similar crime. Interr-ogations revealed that they used to dress as officers while duping their targets ," said Jaiswal.
"They would take the victim’s ornaments on the pretext of wrapping it in a bundle and instead replace it with artificial jewellery," added Jaiswal.
