Four men have been arrested for the murder of a south Delhi resident and injuring at least two others over ogling at women on Thursday.

Police on Saturday said the accused have been identified as Vijay, 24, Darpan, 34,

Mahesh Kumar, 32, and Ajay Kumar 30.

They are charged with stabbing Pawan Kumar during a scuffle outside a house in Madangir around 10pm on Thursday, said Ajay Chaudhary, additional commissioner of police (southeast).

"Ajay, Vijay and Mahesh were standing in the street outside the victim's house and were allegedly staring at the women inside," Chaudhary said.

Realising what the trio was up to, the victim's brother, Naresh, objected to their presence outside his house and a heated argument ensued between the four men.

Police said the quarrel turned ugly before finally turning into a full-fledged assault on Naresh. Chet Ram, one of the victim's neighbours and friends, intervened and called for help.

"Mahesh started hitting Naresh with a stick and also inflicted a grave injury on his left wrist. On hearing the commotion, his brother Sanjay and friend Pawan reached the spot while accused Darpan and Punni joined the fight armed with knives," Chaudhary said.

Punni attacked Naresh and Chet Ram with a knife while Mahesh caught hold of Pawan and Darpan stabbed him on his head.

Pawan was immediately rushed to the trauma centre at AIIMS where the doctors declared him brought dead.
