delhi Updated: Aug 07, 2011 01:38 IST

Four persons, including two policemen, died and seven were injured in a freak accident, involving five vehicles, on west Delhi’s Mayapuri flyover early Saturday morning.

The policemen were trying to settle a minor accident between a Wagon R car and a truck on the flyover when another speeding truck smashed into the stationary vehicles, including the police van and an auto-rickshaw.

“My nephew was driving towards Gurgaon and called at 4.10am that he met with an accident and the other driver was refusing to pay for the damage. My brother Vijay and I, along with a relative, reached the spot in an auto at 4.45am.

“We were trying to settle the matter when this truck come down the flyover and crashed into us,” said Vinod Singh, who got seriously injured in the accident.

He and Vijay —who died —had come to the spot in the auto-rickshaw. The driver of truck managed to escape.

The victims who lost their lives have been identified as Pawan, cab driver, Vijay Singh, cab owner, and Deshraj and Pawan Singh, who were Delhi Police constables.
