If athletes, tourists and visitors at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) find themselves lost in exploring life in Delhi or the event itself, help is at hand in the form of a free software application for those who use Apple's iPhone.
The application has been developed by Delhi-based HCL Technologies. Dubbed ‘Xplore CWG Delhi 2010’ the application is available for free download at Apple’s iTunes store online (http://itunes.apple.com).
It can assist visitors by giving them easy access to venues, events and schedules, an HCL spokesperson said.
The application uses geographical positioning data and maps that can help visitors on the move locate ATMs, restaurants, shopping places, bars, hotels, metro stations and hospitals nearby. Data for dialing taxis and emergency numbers for ambulances or police are also built in. The navigational design has a menu-driven format for all venues, events and schedules at the Games.
The spokesperson said HCL Technologies has done it as a social initiative and not as a profit-making venture and was looking forward to helping athletes and tourists.
