The local gangs of pickpockets have become active at the Ramlila Maidan. The large crowd gathered at the protest venue to support Hazare’s movement have made job easier for them.
In two days more than 25 cases of pick-pocketing have been reported.“I came here to support Anna’s anti-graft protest. Never thought the pickpockets would be at work here as well. I don’t know when I lost my phone. I kept it in my bag,” said Megha Sharma, a protestor who claims that somebody in the crowd stole her phone.
Dozens of supporters have lost their wallets and mobile phones at the protest venue but very few have registered complaint with the police.
“I lost my wallet which was kept in the back pocket of my jeans. I think while entering the venue someone flicked it. I don’t even have enough money to board a bus,” said Neeraj Malhothra, who had come from Gurgaon to join Anna’s movement.
On Saturday as well pickpockets had a field day at Ramlila Maidan as many were seen shouting that someone flicked their phone or wallet. Around 12,000 supporters from across the nation joined Anna’s movement for Jan Lokpal bill at the Ramlila Maidan on Saturday.
“We have got many complaints of pick-pocketing from Ramlila Maidan in the past two days. People should be more careful as it is very difficult to manage thousands of supporters gathered at the protest venue,” said a senior police
