A 21-year-old woman was molested and assaulted by a group of eight people at Mayur Vihar Phase-I in East Delhi on Monday night. The goons beat up her brother and a constable when they tried to save her.
The incident took place around 10.30 pm near Eastend Apartments when the brother-sister duo was returning their home at New Ashok Nagar in their Maruti Alto car. They stopped at a local shop on their way.
"When he was walking towards the shop, eight men appeared on the scene and started misbehaving with his sister, who was sitting in the car. When he objected to it, the miscreants bashed him up," said a senior police officer.
When the woman tried to intervene, the gang -- apparently drunk -- slapped her and molested her. By this time, a passerby had informed the police and beat constable Mohit reached the spot.
"When Mohit tried to rescue the victim, the miscreants tore his uniform and assaulted him before escaping from the spot in their car. All the three victims were taken to a nearby hospital where they were administered preliminary medical attention and later discharged," said the officer.
A case under appropriate sections of IPC was registered against the men at the New Ashok Nagar police station. The victim works at a call centre in Noida while Mohit is attached to the Ashok Nagar police station.
Preliminary investigation revealed that some of the accused were local residents and raids were conducted. One of the accused, identified as Neeraj Kumar, a resident of New Ashok Nagar, was arrested. The officer said several teams had been formed to nab the culprits.
