Stealing wallets from the pocktes of passengers travelling in buses by thieves is a thing of the past. Now, there are gangs in the Capital that might target your laptop or mobile phone while you travel in a crowded bus.
The south Delhi Police have busted one such gang and arrested three of its members, including the kingpin, for allegedly stealing laptops and mobile phones of passengers travelling in buses.
The police have recovered 12 laptops and 287 mobile phones, including expensive BlackBerry phones.
According to the police, the gang also targeted visitors and customers at the recently concluded Auto Expo at the Pragati Maidan. Dilli Haat turns out to be another favourite spot for the gang where they used to steal mobile phones of the visitors.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rajesh Kumar aka Raju Bhai, 44, Narayan Singh Negi alias Fauzi, 48, and Noor Mohammad. All the three are resident of Paschim Puri area. Kumar is the kingpin of the gang infamous as ‘Raju Bhai gang.’
Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said the gang was busted following investigation into a complaint lodged at Defence Colony police station by one Chinmaya Dash whose laptop was stolen from a bus on January 7.
“Dash told us that he had boarded a bus on route number 392 (plying between Dhaula Kuan and Noida) at AIIMS bus stop to reach Noida. On the way near Defence Colony, he noticed that his laptop was missing from his bag. Accordingly, a case was registered and investigation was taken up,” said Sharma.
During investigation, Sharma said, a team formed under the supervision of SHO Vijay Singh received information that some thieves would come in Defence Colony market to strike deal with their customers. Accordingly, a trap was laid and the three were arrested with huge quantity of stolen laptops and mobile phones.
