The two men arrested for allegedly raping a BPO employee near Dhaula Kuan on November 24 had shaved and got haircuts to make it difficult for the victim to identify them.
But the 30-year-old woman, who was allegedly gangraped by them and their three accomplices, positively identified them during a test identification parade (TIP) on Saturday. Senior police officers said the positive TIP had strengthened the case against the accused.
"The victim identified the two accused in judicial custody. She identified Shamshad alias Khutkan and Usman alias Kale who were arrested earlier," said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south).
The victim was taken to Tihar jail for the TIP.
"They are seasoned criminals and know all the loopholes. They thought by shaving and getting a haircut they could alter their appearance, making it difficult for the victim to identify them. But the victim was still able to identify the two," said a senior police officer.
The two men were arrested by a 380-strong Delhi Police posse during a late-night raid on Dhaujj village in Haryana on Wednesday.
Unconfirmed reports said another accused, Iqbal alias Bada Billi, was arrested late on Saturday.
