Driving along the National Highway (NH) 24 between Delhi and Ghaziabad is all set to improve from Friday. Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) will open a newly constructed underpass, a part of the Ghazipur grade separator, for traffic on Friday.

The underpass will provide non-stop traffic movement between the transport hub of Anand Vihar and Noida and areas like Kalyanpuri, Mayur Vihar Phase-III and Vasundhara Enclave.

Delhi PWD minister said the flyover, another important component of the grade separator project, would also be complete by end of June.

“With the opening of the underpass, the north-south direction traffic would get a non-stop passage and vehicles moving along the national highway, between Ghaziabad and Delhi, would also see smooth movement,” Delhi PWD minister Rajkumar Chauhan.

The Ghazipur crossing is one of the busiest traffic intersections in east Delhi and caters to a huge volume of local and inter-state traffic daily.

The intersection also witnessed long traffic snarls during peak hours.

According to PWD engineers, more than 13,000 vehicles pass through this junction every hour during peak time.

According to senior PWD engineers, the underpass is 635-metre long, has two carriageways of nine metres each.

The eight-lane flyover, however, is 770-metres long.

The grade separator is being built at a cost of Rs 246 crore.
