The police, on Friday, arrested seven members of the "courier gang" and recovered cash and jewellery nearly R 2.25 crore from them.

The six men and their 18-year-old girl accomplice were arrested 11 days after officers of Ghanta-Ghar police station nabbed a chain-snatcher Harish Sharma and had recovered valuables of more than R1 crore from his possession.

The police said the gang members targeted houses to burgle by posing as a courier-company employees and deliver fake courier packets. They would then break in using crowbars and steal valuables.

"They targeted several houses in Indirapuram and Vasundhara in Ghaziabad; later they expanded their 'operations' to Jaipur and Udaipur in Rajasthan, Vadodara and Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Their latest destination was Mumbai in Maharashtra," the Senior Superintendent of Police said.

The SSP said that the seven members made comprehensive travel arrangements to target their victims in various cities. The gang had pooled money to buy a WagonR car; they even stole a Honda City car for their operations, the police said.

The police also recovered several flight tickets from their possession. The police said their 18-year-old accomplice, is a girl named Mansi Bhatt, pursuing her bachelor's degree from DU.

The other six accused were in between 20-24 years old, and used their woman accomplice as cover to enter houses and book rooms in posh hotels.

The gang was tracked down by the police during its three-day operation in Mumbai.
