A week after a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped inside a moving car near Murad Nagar area of Ghaziabad, the police have arrested two of the accused on Friday. The incident occurred on January 22, police officials said.
In her complaint, the victim, a resident of Gokul Puri area of Delhi, had named four persons.
Superintendent of police (SP) AK Vijeta denied media reports, which claimed that one of the arrested accused, Sunil Tyagi, was a distant relative of a UP minister.
According to police, the victim was called to the old bus stand area in Ghaziabad on the afternoon of January 22 by her neighbour Laxmi Devi, who introduced her to four men. These men promised her of an embroidery job at a boutique. The four accused later offered her a lift in their WagonR car from the old bus stand area.
"After picking her up, the accused raped her at gunpoint for hours. They later dumped her at Ganga Canal area the next day," Vijeta said.
An FIR under Section 376 of the IPC was registered at the Sihani Gate police station on January 24, police said.
Police have arrested Sunil Tyagi, Imran Khan alias Bobby on Friday and launched a manhunt for the other two accused - Sanjay Chaudhary and Aslam Khan, the SP said.
Police said Tyagi, Khan and Chaudhary hail from Modi Nagar area of Ghaziabad, while Aslam Khan is a resident of Farrukh Nagar area of Sahibabad.
Police have also recovered the WagonR car used in the crime. The vehicle was registered in Bobby's name. "Investigations are on and we are trying to nab the other two accused named in the FIR by the woman," the SP said.
