Fret not if you were not able to buy tickets for Commonwealth Games events.

Walk to the nearest market area and you can watch the events on giant screens complete with surround sound and effects.

To promote community viewing, giant LED screens have been set up in various markets of the city such as Greater Kailash M block, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar's Central Market and Karol Bagh. The project is being done on a Built, Operate and Transfer basis.

A private firm, International Techno Media Pvt. Ltd (ITM), will be signing a partnership deal with the Organising Committee (OC) of the Commonwealth Games for sharing content on Saturday. The screens have already started showing Games-related promos from Friday.

The company, in alliance with Doordarshan, will broadcast live telecast of Opening and Closing ceremony apart from broadcasting other sporting events. "This is a first such initiative away in public places to make the Games popular," said Jatin Bansal, managing director of ITM.

The screens will also display social messages, spreading awareness about health-related issues free of cost. "These screens will act as a platform where people will be able to come together and view live telecast of Games events," said a senior MCD official.

The screen will also give information about the traffic density for various areas, and will guide people to lesser traffic congested routes.

In addition to this, the screens will come handy in tracking stolen or robbed vehicles too. "In case there is a car jacking, the police will be able to display the registration number in real time to locate it. These messages will be free of cost," added the official.
