A 19-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped in north-east Delhi on Sunday night. The police, however, claim initial investigations suggested it was a case of elopement.

According to the police, the incident happened at Panchal Vihar in Karawal Nagar.
The police have registered a missing complaint in the matter and further investigations are on.

The incident took place when the alleged victim, Priti, was returning to her house, along with her mother, from the residence of her sister's in-laws.

The victim was walking at a little distance behind
her mother.

After sometime, when Priti’s mother reached Shani temple in Panchal Vihar, she
turned back and found her was missing.

In the complaint, Priti’s mother claimed a Maruti Van car stopped beside her and she was kidnapped by unidentified assailants.

“She claimed that her daughter was kidnapped by the men in the Maruti Van as it had been following them for a long time and also had stopped a few times beside her daughter,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

“The victim’s mother then raised an alarm following which some people gathered and also tried to find the car.”
But according to the police, prima facie it appears to be a case of elopement. “There are a few inconsistencies in the mother’s version. We are looking at the case from every possible angle,” added the officer.

The police have recorded the statement of the victim’s
mother. They are also cross-questioning her.

A police team has been formed to investigate the case. Police conducted raids in different parts of the city.
