Without wasting much time, the new health minister of Delhi Ashok Kumar Walia has come into action.

In less than a week's time since he was given a new portfolio, Ashok Kumar Walia has asked the medical superintendents of government-run hospitals to give more attention to cleanliness of the hospital premises and wards, and maintenance and upkeep of medical equipment.

Walia also asked them to ensure proper disposal of bio-medical waste, proper functioning of effluent treatment plants, drinking water supply, pest control contracts, functioning of lights, coolers and ceiling fans, fixing new glasses in broken window panes and overcoming seepage problems among others. He also asked the hospital management to overcome the shortage of nursing staff by minimising appointments on contract basis.
