Student strength: 2,200 (morning) and 1,500 (evening)

Popular Courses: B.Com (H)

The deplorable condition of the classrooms drove students to go on strike about two years ago. However, nothing much has changed at Deshbandhu College since then.

Broken benches, broken windows and stained walls are now permanent fixtures of the classrooms in the old block.

And strangely, students have stopped complaining.

“We have made much noise over this, but nothing has changed. We don’t have much choice other than getting accustomed to this,” said Garima Sharma (name changed), a second year student of English (Honours).

“Affiliation to a good university does not guarantee good facilities. Our college is the quintessential example of that,” said another student of English (Honours).

Acknowledging the need for better infrastructure, S.P. Agarwal, the principal of evening college, said, “I agree the situation is grim as far as the old block is concerned. The building is in such a bad condition that there is no point renovating it. We are planning to demolish it.”
