Facing opposition from civil society members over the draft lokpal bill, the government on Thursday asked Anna Hazare to have faith in parliament.
Hours before tabling of lokpal bill in parliament, law minister Salman Khurshid said, Anna Hazare must have faith in parliament.
Earlier, social activist Anna Hazare and his supporters said they will burn drafts of lokpal bill in protest against introduction of government's version of the bill in the Parliament on Thursday.
"You either have faith in parliament or don’t have faith in it. Anna's team needs to have faith in parliament,” Khurshid told reporters outside parliament here.
"The bill has been given the kind of importance and attention that it deserves. It has been researched and the methodology is keeping in mind the people," Kurshid added.
The main contention between the government and the civil society representatives led by Hazare is the inclusion of the Prime Minister within the ambit of lokpal (ombudsman).
The proposed legislation does not bring the prime minister under the purview of lokpal during his term in office but once he demits office, he may be investigated for any wrongdoing during his term.
It also excludes the judiciary and any action of an MP inside parliament or parliamentary committee.
