The centre has convened an all-party meeting on Tuesday to build a political consensus on future steps to reverse the effect of the recent Supreme Court judgment on disqualification of lawmakers and the Central Information Commission’s order to bring national parties under the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

Several political parties have vehemently opposed both orders and the meeting is also expected to discuss remedial legislative measures against another Supreme Court order on quashing quota in super specialty faculty posts of All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Top government sources, however, suggested that parliamentary affairs minister Kamal Nath may also use this opportunity to pursue the Opposition to allow smooth run of the ongoing parliament session.

The government has proposed a long list of legislative business for the coming days at the Lok Sabha Speaker’s meeting. The ambitious land bill is expected to come up for discussion on Wednesday.

Parties have also decided that Parliament will function on Saturday, August 24 to compensate for a few holidays.
